man will turn over half a library to make one book.
—Samuel Johnson
If you wish to be a good writer, first be a good reader.
Nothing matches a good book to give you ideas and thoughts. I was a good reader in my twenties. I had ample time to go through the books. I have spent many a nights reading an interesting book.
But as I grew, I somehow lost that habit. Daily chores took over and I became too busy to turn a page.
I kept writing though. But the day came when mind yearned for stimuli. Writing looked like a chore, some times frustating.
I was running high on my creativity when I read but that was subdued when I stopped reading.
That was the day I decided to get back to reading.
You must read in order to become a good writer.
What to read?
Anything that you like and enjoy. It could be short story,a novel or anything. A book should be thought provoking, enjoyable. It should become a joyful activity and not an assignment.
To write better, it is important to read the genre of writing in which you’re working. You’ll pick up ideas easily.
How To Read?
When you read a book just do not do a plain reading. Instead mark th sentences and pages you like. Write down your view points. If you happen to read ebooks or you either can write your notes on paper or on computer in notepad or Word processor.
You would have a working conversational library soon and never ever have dearth of ideas.
You would notice that you like some writers better than others. They are the ones whom you would connect with easily. They are also the ones who would influence your writing most.
Learn how they use the language and grammar. See how they formulate sentences and structure their writings.
You would easily pick where to improve your own shortcomings.
One last thing
Do not ever leave the habit of reading. It is most valuable habit that writer can inculcate.

If you use Article Marketing for your traffic, here is a good news. You can as well earn money from your submitted articles.
Associatedcontent.com allows you to earn on published articles. In fact this website allows you to publish many content formats like video, text, audio and images on any topic of your choice.
They also have Calls for Content where they ask people to produce content on the given topic.
Because I do this with articles, I would continue to with article publishing. For any other media the rules and regulations are almost similar.
You can submit your content in three forms depending on exclusivity of the submission.
Exclusive
You give AC the Exclusive rights to publish your original content. This content…
* Cannot have been previously published.
* Cannot be re-published elsewhere by you.
* Cannot be removed from AC by you.
Exclusive is the best option if don’t plan on publishing your content anywhere else.
Non-Exclusive
with this option you give AC limited rights to publish your original content. This content…
* Cannot have been previously published.
* Can be re-published elsewhere by you.
* Cannot be removed from AC by you.
Non-Exclusive is the best option if you want to re-publish this content elsewhere
Display-Only
You give Associated Content only the right to display your original content. This content…
* May have been previously published.
* Can be re-published elsewhere by you.
* Can be edited or removed from AC by you.
Associated Content allows you to earn in two ways.
Upfront Payment
This optopn is only for Exclusive and Non-Exclusive content. Display Only articles do not fall in this category.
Associated Content has been giving $3-$20 per article as upfront payment.
Performance Payment
As the name suggests, this payment depends on performance of your article. You are paid by number of views your article generates. It follows a typical CPM model.
Upfront payment is only for exclusive and non exclusive articles. Performance payment is applicable to all kinds of articles.
Submission to Associated Content is quite simple process

How To Write An Effective Business Writing
August 12, 2008 by Arun Pal Singh · Leave a Comment
Be careful when you write.
Words you use, sentences you phrase will reveal what you are.
We come across so many examples daily.
There are sales letters that I do not even bother to go beyond first few lines.
There are others which keep me hooked till the end.
What differentiates one from another?
-Use of the right language.
What is right language you might ask?
-It depends upon the occasion, I would say.
When you interact in the real world your facial gestures and voice modulation can to some extent compensate for the wrong selection of words though that too becomes difficult sometimes.
But internet is a faceless world.
Here your sole medium of communication is the written word. It is in your emails. It is in your sales letters. It is in your website, advertisements and not to speak of many other things.
So when you use wrong word on the net you will not be pardoned. Online business thrives on the written sentences. Whether they take a form of sales letter, a promotional article or communication with your potential customers, your writing will influence your business.
What you write forms a personality of its own. In language each word has a unique identity, a unique meaning. Further amalgamation of words into sentences forms a structure that may vary in the shape depending upon words chosen and how well they have been knit.
This whole process will differentiate a well built writing from a poor one.
This whole process will eventually distinguish an impact from a thud.
Yes! You should choose your words carefully and knit them diligently.
This is an ongoing process and can not be learnt in a day. But it can be learnt for sure.
First and foremost is writing with passion. Whether it is a sales letter or an email, when you get involved in the work you produce a better copy. Your mind works on a different level and your vocabulary is used to maximum.
Second is constant reading and increasing your vocabulary. Whenever you read something whether it is newspaper or a novel or anything you do come across new words. Note them down and look for exact meaning. Do not work by approximation to complete the reading. It might seem boring initially but it will end up forming a good habit and enrich your vocabulary.
Study the good works of successful people. Learn how they produce powerful statement using the same set of words. Note how everybody has a unique style that they can be identified with.
You too should develop your own style. No! Not a copy of someone but your own. Write as you comfortably write. Don’t imitate somebody in want of style. As you write naturally your style will take a shape.
Last but not the least, keep your grammar and spellings correct. Wrong grammar and spelling mistakes leave a very bad impression. It does not matter if your reader has a bad grammar but you will be judged by absolute standards.
Typos and grammatical mistakes are absolutely intolerable. Avoid them as you would avoid an allergic substance.
Follow these and you will have better hold on the language and better results in your business.
Your words are your weapon in this marketing arena. Make it sure that you possess the best ones and you are an expert user.

Power of The Written Word- Developing Your Own Writing Style
August 6, 2008 by Arun Pal Singh · Leave a Comment
Writing style reflects the personality of a writer. On any given subject two persons will write differently. If they are asked to use the same set of facts the result would still be different.
This difference is due to their different styles of writing. This writing style is responsible for versatility in the literature. Whenever you write it is this writing style that stamps your uniqueness on that writing.
As a human being each one of has capacity to feel and express. But due to difference in genetic makeup and upbringing patterns we become more efficient in some expressions than other. Some of us are more comic than others. Some are more dramatic. Some write suspense better.
How does it happen?
As I noted before it depends on genetic makeup and upbringing. Your genetic temperament is a major contribute to your style. So is your childhood exposures impression and experiences.
Both there is one factor that is modifiable and that is totally under our control is PRACTICE.
Each of us is capable of feeling each and every emotion that humans can feel though might not be that well endowed to express it.
But that can be learned and with practice mastered.
First step is to see what triggers your interest most. If you like something than mastering that becomes easier. Read in detail the subject you like or intend to write upon from the available literature. You will find that you like some authors better than others. They are the one who catch your fancy when you go through their works.
Study them in details and note down how they bring out the subject. See how they introduce to the topic? How do they approach any topic? How is their opening paragraph constructed and how do they follow the sequence of events which intends at providing information or finishing a story or whatever?
No! Do not imitate. This practice of reading was just to have an idea. The actual work starts now.
Now is the step two. You need simply to WRITE!
Take a topic, ponder over it and go. Write on anything you like. As you continue these practice sessions you are training your grey cells to establish connections that will speed up the functions necessary to the faculty of expressions. By and by it comes into your habit. Write & evaluate. Revise and revaluate. Repeat the cycle till you think cannot make it better.
Another essential aspect of faculty of expression is increase in your vocabulary.
If your vocabulary is limited you seriously limit your power of expression. Vocabulary is the essential tool for any writer. Vocabulary empowers you to bring the versatility in your style. It empowers you to put finesse in your work.
Vocabulary expansion comes from constant inculcation of the new word meanings.
Whenever you read or hear a new word, look for its meaning. Do not approximate the meaning when you do not know or are not sure of the way the word is being used. Instead note it down and look up for its meaning whenever you get the time.
As a writer it is very important to develop this habit. You have to know the word and its proper usage. Only then you can frame those meaningful, intriguing and impressive sentences. If done well this practice is very rewarding. To add fun to your learning you can do crosswords and other word games. Learn any way you want but learn it well.
As you continue writing and expand your vocabulary you will enjoy your capacity to express. Slowly and slowly you will develop your own unique writing style.
It involves hard work but it is very rewarding one.
Power Of The Written Word- Constructing A Sentence That Produces Impact
August 5, 2008 by Arun Pal Singh · Comments Off
In our last article we discussed about the necessity of the language for expression and the force that written word can become.
Here we continue, uninterrupted.
A written sentence has to convey the fullness of the meaning without any help of gestures or voice modulation available to the spoken word.
This led to development of the rules for written language. First and foremost is the grammar. If your writings do not follow these rules they won’t be read. Grammatical errors are acceptable in our conversations but when it comes to writing it is an unforgivable mistake.
Correct spellings are another requirement of a good writing. Spelling errors popularly referred as typos (We are now in a world where people type more than they write!) spoil the taste of good reading .One must watch for these errors.
Everybody hates spelling mistakes. It does not matter whether the people themselves are good at it not. Food should be perfect for everybody’s palate irrespective of their culinary knowledge.
The last requirement of a sentence making is the use of right words.
There is not much scope for alteration and leverage as for as the spellings and grammar are concerned. So it is the combination of right words that makes a writing unique.
One must strive to choose the optimum set of words for the sentence within the framework of the grammar. The need varies from one writing to another and many a words can be used with different meaning attached it them in different perspectives. But to make a good writing careful selection is a must.
One has to choose wisely. Pause and ponder deliberately to look for the options best suited for your sentence and narration.
Words have originated at different times in different cultures. These words carry with than a subtle aura or personality and they import this aura to the sentence which they are put in.
Let us have an example.
Wealth, money moolah or cash! There are so many terms to describe money.
But each of them does brings a little different impact on our brains. This is because though our upbringing and culture we start imparting a different image to different words. This difference could also be due to difference in intelligence and cultural background.
But because the language is passed from one generation to another in a rather clear cut and organized manner the words themselves leaves an imprint on the learning mind provided we take out other variables. This imprint or image is then generated back each time the word is encountered.
Every writing would incite a response in the reader. That is the aim of the writing. That is what a good writer wants.
If you are writing a sales copy the effect should lead the readers to the sales. Better you use your words better is the copy and its desired effect. Same goes for a webpage, e-book, email or anything you write. The factor that will differentiate a bang from thud is the right use of the words.
How far did you penetrate the minds of the reader will depend mainly on the words that you used to create the writing if we keep the reader related factors (for example education, intelligence, culture, language proficiency etc)
The choice of words will ultimately depend upon your style and vocabulary you have. Style comes from your personality and inferences you carry. Vocabulary comes from constant reading and inculcation.
